Named after the demigod Maui, this is a volcanic doublet formed from the two volcanic mountains Mauna Kahalawai and Haleakala. Maui is active and busy in one hand and also a quiet corner of paradise on the other.

Maui’s fauna includes the world’s smallest and rarest marine dolphins (Cephalorhynchus hectori maui), numbering around 100.
