Santorini

Valentine’s Day offers you the opportunity to convey your feelings to your lover. Often it happens that we find it difficult to express our feelings for our lovers. Therefore make use of the Valentine gifts, the Valentine cards or the gift items that the shops display on the occasion of Valentine’s Day to tell your lover that he/she means the world to you. The most unique gift that is bound to bring a smile on your beloved’s face is to make arrangements for a tour to the Santorini island that upholds beauty in the truest sense of the term.

Santorini is the name given to a cluster of volcanic islands. These islands are situated in the Aegean Sea, located on the south-eastern side of Greece. The white villages, the snow clad mountains, the stunning sunsets, the cliffs of the volcanoes and the gorgeous landscapes of the Santorini island are sure to impress you in all ways. The scenic beauty that this island upholds makes a description in words tough. This island is also known as Thera.

Once you arrive at this island, you feel the need to be by yourself, so that you can drown yourself in the beauty of this island. A volcanic eruption that took place in 1450 B.C. was responsible for the destruction of half of the population of the island, but this disaster has not been able to restrict the tourists from visiting this place. You need not worry about the accommodation, as there are apartments, suites, villas, and luxury hotels and luxury hotel resorts. The cost of stay at these suites/ hotels/ villas /apartments is within one’s budget.

The beaches of Santorini speak largely about the beauty of this island. Given below are the names of the beaches that you can visit during your stay in Santorini, which are:
  • Akrotiri Red Beach (Southeastern Santorini) – It is situated near the ancient site of Akrotiri. This Red Beach has derived its name from the red cliffs and the sparkling red sands. The slabs of volcanic rocks that are red /black in color forms the backdrop of this picturesque setting. The activities associated with this beach are snorkeling and swimming.
  • Kamari Black Beach (Eastern Santorini) - This beach is one of the most highly developed beaches of Santorini. This beach stretches up to five kilometers and the clear ocean waters as well as the black sand had made it one of the most sought after beaches. At this beach you can indulge yourself with various water sports activities and it also features a scuba diving centre.

  • Perissa Black Beach (Southeastern Santorini) – It is situated at the southernmost tip of the Santorini and is the most popular beach of Santorini. The black lava as well as the fact that this beach is protected from the summer Aegean winds has made this beach quiet popular. The other features of this beach are water sports facilities, fine dining and accommodation facilities. It lies adjacent to the Profitis Ilias mountain.

  • Vourvoulous Beach, (North Eastern Santorini) – If you just want to relax, then this is the place for you to be. This beach is an excellent spot to get a sunbathe and it is less populated. The gray colored sands, the crystal clear waters and the fishing port adds to the beauty of this beach.

Apart from the beaches, the other places to explore in Santorini are:

The residents of Akrotiri had to bid farewell to this place due to the frequent earthquakes that took place in the last quarter of the 17th century. This site got buried due to a volcanic eruption that took place 3,500 years ago. However the excavations have proved that this city was once the home to the glorious wall paintings, the multi – storied buildings, frescos and the elegantly designed furniture’s. It is assumed that excavating the rest of the site would probably take another century.

  • The Ancient City of Thera – This ancient city is located at 396 metres above sea level and is situated at the southeastern side of Santorini. This site was discovered by Theras, (the leader of the Dorian colonists) in the 9th century B.C and this site occupied an important position until the Byzantine Era. • The Nautical Museum in Oia, - This museum, which is located in Oia (a village in Santorini), features exclusive marine items, models of ancient as well as new ships and a library.
