Amazing Tasmania

Do you and your beau want to rediscover each other in a place away from the nine to five stress of the city? The ideal place for you would be the island of Tasmania, encircled by the placid azure sea, bays, lagoons, sugary white beaches, rugged crags, a remarkable history and abundant wildlife. Tasmania, a state of Australia in the Southern Ocean, offers the perfect blend of sophistication and relaxation with wild and gorgeous landscapes, welcoming people, a lovely climate, rich wine and food, an unperturbed island lifestyle, thereby making it the perfect “Island of Rejuvenation”.

Tasmania had been the aboriginals’ land for some 20,000 years when the Dutch explorers reached the island in the 17th century. The island was named as Anthoonij van Diemenslandt, shortened by the British to Van Diemen’s Land. It was renamed as Tasmania by the British in 1856.

Finally Tasmania joined the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. In the 18 national Tasmanian parks, soaring mountains, calm lakes, wild rivers, isolated beaches and vast plains portray the bounty of nature. Regarding Tasmania’s exotic diversity of animals (fauna), it boasts of possessing one of the largest collections of marsupials in Australia, and over a dozen species of native birds. The famous Tasmanian devil, the extinct Tasmanian Tiger, the Black Currawong, Orange Bellied Parrot, Bennett’s Wallaby and Golden Possum are a few from the collection. Regarding Tasmanian flora, the Tasmanian Blue Gum, the Huon Pine, the King William Pine, Tasmanian Waratah, the Leatherwood tree and the Flying Duck Orchid are some of the species in the island. The 18 national parks protect some endangered and unique species of trees and smaller plants, fish, mammals, birds and reptiles.

Open your taste buds to explore the pleasures of fine wine and gourmet cuisine with spicy salmon, prime beef, leatherwood honey, jams and jellies, chutneys, preserves and pickled octopus, lemon myrtle, mountain pepper-berry and renowned cool-climate wines to make you warm. For accommodation, you’ll find the nation’s oldest continuously licensed hotel Hobart’s Hope and Anchor; Australia’s first licensed casino Wrest Point, Amundsen’s first watering hole on the way back from the South Pole, Hadleys Hotel, offering you an array of colour and fun – waterfront bars, noisy galahs, foaming jars, best beer, a stroll in a caravan and some mouth-watering seafood.
