Valentine’s Day Breakfast
February 14th is a full day, no matter what. You’ve probably made dinner plans and purchased a gift or two, but have you thought about doing a Valentine’s Day breakfast to get everything started off on the right foot? Sure, there are probably a dozen other things you have in mind, but if you’re going to see your loved one first thing in the morning, it might be nice to take a swing at making a delicious meal to send them out the door with. The great news is, it doesn’t have to be all that complicated. Just have a look at these ideas and you can whip something up in no time.
Heart-shaped Anything
It might seem a bit overdone, considering it is the international symbol of love and all, but it’s almost impossible to avoid putting something on the plate shaped like a heart. This can take on many forms, from pancakes or waffles to eggs or toast – or eggs in toast if you’re that good. The key thing is to choose a food you know they like and find a metal cookie cutter that’s deep enough for you to pour batter or an egg into. If you decided on pancakes, for instance, you would want to hold the cookie cutter steady as you slowly dropped the liquid mixture in. Though you might be tempted to do this with your fingers, hold onto it with some tongs instead – third-degree burns aren’t ideal for romance.
Recognizable Colors
Red, pink, and white are the hues most associated with the holiday, so figure out a way to work them into the plate you’re creating. You might, for example, spread some strawberry jam on a heart-shaped piece of toast or serve some strawberries with egg whites. Even a simple bowl of fruit and yogurt can do the trick, if you choose a mixture of red raspberries and cherries as the topping. No matter what you choose, sticking to this color scheme will set the pace for all the romantic surprises you have planned later.
Flowers
Though there are plenty of varieties you can eat, these are mostly for decoration. You might choose to put a single blossom on the corner of the plate or arrange a small bouquet for the tray you’re delivering. Either way, you’ve created a visually appealing element to breakfast with a distinct nod to Valentine’s Day – and, if you are a man, you’ve gotten flowers out of the way early. Of course, there are floral flavorings you can add to some foods: rose water, for instance, is a sweet addition to a morning cup of tea or even a smoothie.
There Are No Rules
All of these are great tips, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that what you prepare is something your loved one enjoys – it doesn’t have to fit any theme or color scheme. The fact you’ve prepared a meal for them that fits their tastes shows how well you know them, a key in any relationship. If what they want is steak and a fruit salad, go with that. You’ll score way more points than if you make a dozen heart-shaped crepes filled with homemade raspberry preserves.
