Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice has best brought out the talents of Jane Austen to the foreground. Through this novel she has proved what an insight she had on the characters of the people. Pride and Prejudice is roughly set in Victorian England and through this novel, the social norms of the era are explicitly explained. This immensely popular novel has been adapted for the screen innumerable times and the most recent adaptation was in 2006. This edition of Pride and Prejudice has been nominated for 4 Academy Awards including a nomination for the actor who portrayed the character of Elizabeth Bennett, Keira Knightly.

Pride and Prejudice is the tale of five sisters and their loves. The eldest daughter of the house, Jane was disappointed in love though everything was ironed out in the end. She met Mr. Bingley again and married him to live happily ever after. But the romantic interludes of the second sister is most interesting.

She was heart whole and determined to be logical. But Cupid struck her when she least expected it and that too her heart was lost to her sworn "enemy" Fitzwilliam Darcy! Darcy represented the refined, polished, upper class English society. He place great importance on the breeding and family name, which were quite lacking in case of Elizabeth.

Darcy fell in love with Elizabeth in spite of the perceived inequalities of their status. He still had not learnt to humble himself for love and was refused by Elizabeth. It was then, love taught him that when a person is in love, he is just in love. The hurdles can be eased away with the power of lover, for when in love the lover moulds himself for the beloved. Darcy and Elizabeth both reinvented themselves for each other and love won. Connect to My Dear Valentine for more.
