One of the greatest love movies of all times is the 1942 release, Casablanca. This movie directed by Michael Curtiz, was an instant hit.
Casablanca was produced by Hal B. Wallis and starred Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains and many others. It is generally accepted as one of the greatest romantic movies of all times.
Casablanca is set in the 2nd World War era. The backdrop of the film is in the Moroccan city of Casablanca and Humphrey Bogart portrays the character of Rick Blaine and Ingrid Bergman portrays the character of Iisa Lund. Rick is torn between love and virtue, he is actually torn between his love for Iisa and helping her husband who is a Resistance hero in continuing his fight against the Nazis.
Rick is a bitter and cynical man, but the upscale club and gambling den owner shows a clear dislike for the fascist people who frequents his joint. Rick is bitter and cynical about life because he was unlucky in love and at a critical juncture in the movie Iisa reenters his life. Her husband is a famous Resistance leader
from Czechoslovakia and Rick help him in his mission.Casablanca is a classic example of love in tough times. It shows the power of love, how it can elevate the intrinsic good qualities in a man. It also proves that love can cross any hurdle and rise above any barriers. An interesting fact is that the movie was based on Murray Burnett and Joan Alison's then unproduced play "Everybody Comes to Rick's". The entire film was shot in studio.
