Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason is a sequel to Bridget Jones' Diary. This sequel chronicles the faux pas of Bridget Jones as she progresses on the journey of love..
The writers of this sequel are Andrew Davies, Helen Fielding, Richard Curtis and Adam Brooks. The film has been directed by Beeban Kidron and the principal stars are Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Jacinda Barrett and Sally Phillips.
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason rides on the charisma of Renee Zellweger. She portrays the character of Bridget with finesse. As a girl torn between her two loves, her boss in the publishing company Daniel Cleaver and the barrister Mark Darcy, her discomfiture about her love life is quite apparent. There is no originality in the script, Zellweger just follows her instincts in portraying the character. Some of the jokes from the original movie has been repeated, they jar a little in this sequel.
Though the sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason is a bit strained and the overall effect is pretty trivial, on the whole the movie makes the audience remain interested. The credit for this goes to Zellweger, Firth and Grant.
The best part about the leading actors in this movie is that, they excel in their parts. Hugh Grant has delivered. That's the word for it, he steals every scene he is in. Firth is a versatile actor but awfully constricted in this movie. It is refreshing to see him deliver under those circumstances. Valentine movies are about love and it is refreshing to see a confused girl in love in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. On the whole, this is a much likeable and watchable film.
