Valentine's Day in Norway

Celebrations of a special day mean a lot of special activity. Some celebrations has religious significance, many others have social significance and are repeated year after year. These special days are a departure from the normal working day and what can be better if such a special day is dedicated to love and romance? Valentine's Day celebrations bring a warm glow in the hearts of many couples. Valentine's Day in Norway is an occasion for the young adults to be together with and without reason.

Though Valentine's Day was not in the social calendar of the Norwegians earlier, now it has become an integral part.

Many Norwegians feel that it, that is, the concept of Valentine celebrations is "imported" from other countries. Valentine's Day is celebrated on 14th February each year. According to the legends the sight of birds mating being a sure sign of spring, love and spring and Valentine celebrations have become interlinked.

In Norway, big cities like Oslo have shops that display the red heart and other Valentine goodies. Red hearts are a symbol of Valentine's Day and they are most prominent in shop windows' displays.

Commercialization is the keyword in the celebrations of Valentine's Day in Norway. Valentine cards are produced in bulk but the introduction of the gifts and commercially produced Valentine cards were introduced in as late as 1980's.
