Valentines Day in Russia
When the entire world has gladly embraced Saint Valentine as the epitome of love and its worth, strength and power, how could the communists stay behind? Young Russians do commemorate and celebrate the importance of their loved ones on St. Valentine Day. Valentine's day in Russia is welcomed with heart shaped balloons flying high, teddies, roses, chocolates, candies, valentine cards, gift basket and romantic songs, poems and love letters.
Saint Valentine today has transcended the physical and cultural boundaries. All around the globe, the Valentines Day is celebrated with tremendous joy and vigor. The notorious Cupid seems to be giggling. Why would not he? His blind folded love reigns the entire world today. When hit the bow and arrow the only day you look forward to is the Valentine's Day.
Though formally in Orthodox Russia Catholic, St. Valentine Day celebration does not hold much importance and is still considered as a foreign festival the influence of media on the Valentine's Day has not left Soviet Union untouched. The youngsters long for the day to arrive and enjoy the holiday splendidly. Today, Russia celebrates Valentine's Day with the same spirit with which they celebrate their other customary festivals.
In Russian schools and universities celebrate the Valentine's Day in the charming way in which the students put heir love letters anonymously in boxes. Most interestingly, the teachers also involve themselves in the innocent sweet celebration.
The commercialization of Valentine's Day in Russia has seen a great altitude in the past decade. Gift shops painted with festive colors, of Valentine's Day long before the arrival of the real Valentine's event is a common practice. Russia being a developed country, its teenagers prefer enjoying the day with new technology and new ideas such as photo story albums, musical CDs, DVDs, mobile phones, ipods, webcams, cameras, e-cards and gifts available online etc.
Restaurants, pubs, cafes, clubs are all adored with fancied shimmers and lighting that hint at the zeal and love with which Russians celebrate the Valentine's Day. Shows and musical concerts organized are attended by a large number of people. Strolls around the city and its exotic palaces, monuments, tree-lined avenues and bridges spell an amazing magic that can send chill down the spine. Nevsky Prospekt is the ideal thoroughfare for romantic flowers to express the unspoken sentiments just for around $20. Sidewalk stands provide a galore of heart-shaped candies and cards, nicknamed valentinkis available for 15 cents. Dominique's Chocolate, allows a personalized selections. Pepper vodka and banana, Mandarin vodka and chestnut or Lemon vodka and cherry are traditional Russian fillings. Russia also has a number of affordable accommodations that are perfectly comfortable and cozy for the couples in love. Valentines is celebrated round the globe without any bias and prejuedice. Celebration of love sees no discrimination. The only motive behind the celebration is to elevate the spirit of love. By celebrating the Valentines Day in Russia the country keeps the spirit alive in the country by celebrating the festival with utmost love and enthusiasm.
