Donkey Beach:
Located 7/10 of a mile north of mile marker 11 on Kuhio Highway 56, Donkey Beach is a serene, untamed, secluded beach that is ideal for sunbathing and snorkeling. The beach was so-named as the nearby plantations engaged donkeys and burros to drag cane to the fields. The beach is accessed by an access road that is ½ mile from the mile marker.
Donkey Beach has a long tradition of nude use however, the new owners and local officials have hired security guards to patrol the beach area and enforce a no nude beach going practice. Donkey Beach is surely an attraction for naturist visitors from all over the world.
Secret Beach, also known as Kauapea Beach:
Located at a half mile north of Kilauea on Rt. 56, Secret Beach boasts of long stretches of yellow sand and offers breathtaking visuals. The deep brown of the rocks that litter the shoreline, the white of the stretches of sands, the blue of the pristine ocean and the green of the trees, all elemental colors juxtapose to create an amazing ambiance. The Secret Beach can be accessed by a 15 min hike from a trail at the end of a red dirt road off Kalihiwai Road. The beach has now become Kauai's leading nude beach; however, County authorities are trying their best to enforce the nudity ban.
Honokohau Harbor Beach:
Located to the north of Ai'opio Beach off the trail to Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park, Honokohau Harbor Beach offers the visitors long stretches of stunning yellow sands and warm. The north end of this beach is a famous gay and nude beach. However, Federal Park rangers often patrol the area to implement the no nude sunbathing policy.
Kehena Beach:
Kehena Beach is popularly known as Dolphin beach, as it is a good place to watch dolphins play and maybe even swim with them. Located in the Puna district off of Highway 137 near the 19 mile marker, Kehena Beach is a well shaded black sand beach shadowed by steep cliffs and lofty green trees. Swimming in Kehena beach can often be dangerous and risky due to rough current and high waves.
