Sad poems help to reveal the innermost feelings of heart in the most divine way. Feelings of pain and grief are part and parcel of human relationships. Love and pain are two sides of the same coin. We tend to get attached to people we love the most. Their proximity gives us extreme happiness, but when they are not with us; a feeling of sadness engulfs us. Poems have always given us a platform to express our in-depth feelings in the most beautiful way.
Sonnet XXXI: With How Sad Steps, O Moon by Sir Philip Sidney
" With how sad steps, O Moon, thou climb'st the skies!
How silently, and with how wan a face!
What, may it be that even in heav'nly place
That busy archer his sharp arrows tries!
Sure, if that long-with love-acquainted eyes
Can judge of love, thou feel'st a lover's case,
I read it in thy looks; thy languish'd grace
To me, that feel the like, thy state descries.
Then, ev'n of fellowship, O Moon, tell me,
Is constant love deem'd there but want of wit?
Are beauties there as proud as here they be?
Do they above love to be lov'd, and yet
Those lovers scorn whom that love doth possess?
Do they call virtue there ungratefulness? "

"Is it truly selfish to want you back again?
I could not calm your mind, I could not ease your pain;
I thought my love would be enough to keep you here with me;
But now I know that was never going to be…."

Love is the most awesome feeling in this world. But, at times when things go wrong the same love becomes extremely painful. Heart-aches are usually associated with love. A sad love poem makes it very easy for the person to express his agony and anger. "A burden born by one can often grow too heavy to bear. Maybe, in the end, each of us knows that sharing our pain is the only way we can live with the pain". People who lose their love often relate to these sad love poems. There are many renowned poets who have lent their words to this subject. The following poem is about lovers who drift apart, the sadness, and the strings of attachment that linger for years.
"When we two parted
In silence and tears,
Half broken-hearted,
To sever for years,
Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
Colder thy kiss;
Truly that hour foretold
Sorrow to this……''
By: Lord Byron
