The Beatles – “I Want to Hold Your Hand” (1963)

One of the Beatles’ early hits, “I Want to Hold Your Hand” smashed previous billboard chart records and held the top spot in both the U.S. and England for several weeks. It is credited with beginning the so-called British Invasion in the 1960s, which would come to revolutionize all of music.

It slowly gained in popularity during the 1960s, being covered by influential artists like Peter, Paul and Mary and Gordon Lightfoot. However, it truly leapt off the charts and into the public consciousness in 1972, with the memorable Roberta Flack version.
