Love Words

Strange as it may seem, there are few more frightening things in this world than trying to come up with the right love words to express your feelings for your sweetheart.

Most of us aren’t all that creative and, with the added pressure of thinking we have sound like Shakespeare or Lord Byron, we almost always end up staying quiet instead of saying what we feel.

Not only does this lead to the heartache of a missed opportunity, but it also robs the person you hold dear of the satisfaction of knowing you have such a romantic heart.

Next time you feel like putting yourself out there, remember these three tips:

Say What You Feel

Whatever you do, pick out something that really encapsulates your emotions. You might begin by saying something as simple as “I hardly feel like I can control my heart when I’m around you, it beats so fast.”

Chances are the effort will mean far more than what you actually say, especially if you are the type who frequently withholds their emotions or avoids public speaking. You may graduate to more eloquent lines, like “My heart beats with the force of a thousand stampeding horses when you are near.”

Do pay attention to your lover’s reaction – it’s perfectly fine for him or her to laugh, so long as your effort is appreciated. If he or she uses it as a chance to criticize you, it’s a great sign your heart may be better cared for in someone else’s hands.

Practice Makes Perfect

You will feel like a fool doing it, but spending some time in front of the mirror running through your love words will help you get them out when the moment arrives. Yes, it’s tough to take yourself seriously. Yes, you’ll think everything you say is stupid. No, you shouldn’t do it with the door open. (You’ll be even more self-conscious.)

The fact of the matter is, though, that preparing yourself by reciting your lines will make you feel more confident when the moment arrives. You’ll be able to relax more because you know exactly what you are going to say and all you have to do is repeat it.

Fall Back on the Classics

We all look to certain writers because we know they can deliver the goods. You might decide on a couplet from Romeo and Juliet or share a few lines from something by Alfred, Lord Tennyson if you are stuck.

Do your best to avoid relying on them altogether, as it prevents you from really expressing your ideas. Enough of that and your sweetie is bound to think you are communicate in other ways – a bad sign for your relationship.

Still stumped? Here are some of the best MyDearValentine.com has to offer:

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate.

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer's lease hath all too short a date.

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimmed;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimmed;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,

Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,

When in eternal lines to Time thou grow'st.

So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,

So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

William Shakespeare, “Sonnet 18”

The affections are like lightning: you cannot tell where they will strike till they have fallen.

Lee Iacocca

Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within.

James Arthur Baldwin

Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery

With these beautiful love words, you can flatter your loved one. You also can attach them with your romantic gifts, so that they can enhance the significance of the gifts at once.
