Sad Love Poems
There is probably none, who did not taste sadness in love. Well, like the joyride of love that takes us from the real world to a world of magic, it brings a few pangs with it as well.
Like happiness, pain too is an integral part of love. And it goes without saying that the feelings of pathos are stronger than the wonderland of affection. It is also can't be denied that pain in love is lessened if we share our feelings. So given below are some sad love poems, which you can truly identify with if you are going through a similar phase.
Popular Sad Love Poems
Farewell Love by Sir Thomas Wyatt
"Farewell love and all thy laws forever;
Thy baited hooks shall tangle me no more.
...therefore farewell; go trouble younger hearts
And in me claim no more authority."
This extract of the classic sad poem truly signifies poet's disgust over love. He hoped that since he was no more in love, he did not want love again in his life. He also instructed love to leave him forever and to trouble younger generation.
Last Ride Together by Robert browning
"...…Fail I alone, in words and deeds?
Why, all men strive and who success?
We rode; it seemed my spirit flew,
Saw other regions, cities new
As the world rushed by on either side.
I thought, - All labour, yet no less
……..This present of theirs with the hopeful past!
I hoped she would love me; here we ride."
This is not a poem of frustration rather one of the greatest classic sad poems of all ages. Here the poet marked a thin line of success in his broken love. He knew that she would leave him and still he was satisfied with whatever he got from his beloved. He also cited that everyone around the world must be after something. But hardly anyone got what he wanted. At least, he was riding with his ladylove, which was more than an achievement for a true lover.
With How Sad Steps by Sir Philip Sidney
"……..O Moon, tell me,
Is constant love deemed there but want of wit?
Are beauties there as proud as here they be?
Do they above love to be loved, and yet
Those lovers scorn whom that love doth possess?
Do they call 'virtue' there- ungratefulness?"
In this poem, the poet personifies a rejected lover full of confusions. He also addressed the moon if she was also a rejected lover like him.
If Raindrops Were Tears by Joanna Fuchs
"…….You want me to stop;
You want to be friends,
But you'll be my true love
Until breath and life ends."
This sad poem is written by a modern poet, Joanna Fuchs. In this poem, she wanted to convey her so-called friend, whom she loved that she would always love him, even if he wanted her only as a friend. She also marked that he would be her only true love and she would love him until she was alive.
A Time By Charlene Lopez
There was a time
When I thought you were for me.
I saw no flaws in my choice;
I guess I didn't see.
You didn't treat me nicely
Despite how I treated you.
I cared for you, I loved you
And that you even knew.
I kept telling myself
That you could change your ways.
But you proved me wrong
Every single day.
Suddenly its all black, I can't remember
And I wake up curled up under my cover
Time Does Not Bring Relief by Edna St Vincent Millay
Time does not bring relief; you all have lied
Who told me time would ease me of my pain!
I miss him in the weeping of the rain;
I want him at the shrinking of the tide;
The old snows melt from every mountain-side,
And last year's leaves are smoke in every lane;
But last year's bitter loving must remain
Heaped on my heart, and my old thoughts abide.
There are a hundred places where I fear
To go - so with his memory they brim.
And entering with relief some quiet place
Where never fell his foot or shone his face
I say, 'There is no memory of him here!'
And so stand stricken, so remembering him.
'Twas By Leroy R. Allen
'Twas the midnight hour,
Chimes from the clock tower.
She stood under the street light,
sorta tight but was dressed right.
'Twas on the corner of no place,
Just a girl with a painted face.
She smiled with a tear in her eye,
A limousine slowly drive on by.
'Twas her sixteenth birthday,
First time out, what could she say?
She was a runaway from abuse
Now caught up in the game of misuse.
'Twas not her choice for livin'
Only taking what was given.
She kinda knew what was in store,
The limo stopped... Her first score.
Broken Hearts By Kaitlyn Clements
When I started as a seventh grader
I didn't think life could be greater.
Soon everything fell apart
and you pieced together my broken heart.
I opened up and let you in;
I never thought you'd hurt me in the end.
I never understood what went wrong.
I didn't think it would hurt this long.
All the things you said to me,
I always thought we would be.
The past we cannot forget
But our hearts might be filled with great regret.
I've survived heartbreak and I'll do it again.
I cannot dwell on one of you men.
Love comes your way each and everyday,
It isn't obvious but is shown in a different way.
Some people feel it and others don't,
There are some people who just won't.
Loving is living,
You have to be giving.
Hiding away won't solve the problem today.
Embrace each chance to give your heart away.
Love hurts but takes chances,
You will find different romances.
I will open my heart once more
But my heart will always be sore.
Famous Sad Love Poems
Cupid Lost By Mary Wroth
Late in the Forest I did Cupid See
...Colde, wet, and crying he had lost his way,
...And being blind was farther like to stray:
...Which sight a kind compassion bred in me,
I kindly took, and dried him, while that he
...Poor child complain'd he starved was with stay,
...And pined for want of his accustom'd play,
...For none in that wild place his host would be,
I glad was of his finding, thinking sure
Carrying him safe unto a myrtle bower
...But in the way he made me feel his power,
...Burning my heart who had him kindly warmed.
O never say that I was false of heart By William Shakespeare
O Never say that I was false of heart,
Though absence seem'd my flame to qualify!
As easy might I from myself depart,
As from my soul, which in thy breast doth lie:
That is my home of love; if I have ranged,
Like him that travels I return again,
Just to the time, not with the time exchanged,
So that myself bring water for my stain.
Never believe, though in my nature reign'd
All frailties that besiege all kinds of blood,
That it could so prepost'rously be stain'd,
To leave for nothing all thy sum of good:
...For nothing this wide Universe I call,
...Save thou, my Rose; in it thou art my all.
Remember When by Brittney K. Cook
Remember when we were so in LOVE?
I do, because you were the one I could trust.
Remember when you would hold me tight?
I do, I didn't want you to let go I wanted it to last all night.
Remember when we use to argue about the stupidest things?
I do, because when you got mad it was the cutest thing!
Remember when our love was so strong?
I do, because I thought nothing could go wrong.
Remember when you said you loved me?
I do, I had a great feeling come to me.
Remember when you said you wouldn't lie?
I do, because when I found out all I did was cry.
I never knew but now that I do by Catherine M. Goodnight
I never knew what love was until u came into my life,
I never knew what real heartbreak was until u broke mine,
I never knew I could cry this much till u made me sad,
I guess I never really knew much about love,
but now that I do I have things to say to you,
I don’t wanna hurt no more
I don’t wanna cry
I don’t wanna think I’m going to die,
So to all the pain u have placed inside of me,
Take it all back
so I may Be once again free!
Short Sad Love Poems
What Hurts The Most? by Alien
You want to know what hurts the most?
Not losing him, not that he likes one of my friends
Not the way we embraced, not the way we held hands
The thing that hurts the most is my heart
It holds the memories that make it ache.
My Heart Has Died by Zary
I said I liked you
I said I loved you
I know you didn't care
I know life isn't fair
Cause now my heart has died
Since you didn't even realize I was alive.
Just one word by Blurry Joy
Just one word
Or rain
In one wet drop
Just the touch of a hand
Or little pill
To make the pain stop
Just an ounce of sunshine
On my skin so cold
Please
Just a little love
Before I grow old
