Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights is a story of dark passions. Love here is pitch black, and the darkness had pervaded the lives of the protagonists Healthcliffe and Cathy.
The lack of light was also felt by those whose lives revolved around these two, namely, Edgar Linton and Isabella Linton.
Cathy and Healthcliffe's love for each other could not show them the way to happiness, circumstances were against them. The love destroyed both of them in the long run.

Wuthering Heights saw the daughter of the estate Catherine get involved in a romantic liaison with Healthcliffe whose antecedents were unknown. Catherine's father, Mr. Earnshaw had brought him from Liverpool when he had gone thee on some work. Cathy's brother Hindley and Cathy herself despises the waif who had nobody to turn to nor was particularly refined. However with time, hatred turned to love.
But here destiny stepped in, on a visit to Thrushcross Grange, Cathy got attracted to the refined and elegant Edgar Linton. She marries him and Healthcliffe's channel of thoughts turned towards vindictiveness. He eloped with Isabella, Edgar's sister just to spite Edgar and Cathy. But here again, with time poor Isabella realized that she was not all loved or cared for, Healthcliffe was enamored with her sister-in-law.
The limitless cruelty of Healthcliffe's nature was revealed in his behavior when he had complete control over Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. Hareton, Hindley's son was maltreated by him, Healthcliffe derived sadistic pleasure in making Hareton suffer, for Hindley had maltreated him in his childhood. Through a series of occurrences, young Catherine (Cathy's daughter) and Hareton broke down the curse of hatred and vindictiveness through their union as man and wife.
Wuthering Heights is exclusively on the darker side and its effects of a very luminous passion called love. Healthcliffe could not make his love for Cathy free his mind from its inherent repulsive attributes, likewise, Cathy too could not honor her love for him, nor could she do justice to Edgar's love for her. Isabella made a very costly mistake, which ruined her life. The eternal patterns of love and destruction find their full flow in Wuthering Heights. To know more, do visit My Dear Valentine .
