Love Bird Species

Love birds, the tiny parrots with great intelligence are some of the world's favorite pets. They are known for their friendly and committed nature as well as for their vigorous and active ways. The love birds are the natives of the various parts of Africa. There are many love bird species. Only one species, Agapornis canus originates from Madagascar. All the species live in flocks and eat mainly fruit, vegetables, a few types of grasses and seeds. Black winged love birds enjoy figs very much.

My Dear Valentine is giving a brief account on some of the love bird species.

Peach-faced Love Birds
Peach faced love birds are natives to some of the pockets of arid southwestern Africa like the Namib Desert. They are extremely social and chirp constantly whole day and often assemble in small groups in the wild. These birds fly long distances to make a nest. They are just as social and friendly when kept in captivity.

Masked Love Bird
Masked love birds are native to northeast Tanzania. Two categories of masked love birds are found, the green masked and the blue masked, which is also known as cobalt. Both the types are beautiful birds and they are so named because they have a large white ring around each of its eyes. Masked love birds are smaller in size when compared to other species of love birds.

Fischer's Love Bird
Fischer's love bird is native to a small area of east central Africa, south and southeast of Lake Victoria in northern Tanzania. They were discovered in 18oo's and are named after German explorer Gustav Fischer. These birds live in isolated clumps of trees with grass plains in between. These are very noisy chirpy birds.

Nyasa Love Bird
Nyasa Love birds are very rare. They are found in Malawi. Not much scientific study has been done on Nyasa love birds and the bird is now presently found in Liwonde National Park and a few clusters are found in the surrounding area of the forest. Very recently cases of Nyasa love bird poisoning have escalated, though why poachers are killing the birds is unclear.

Other love birds species are natives of Africa too and bond well with their human masters.
