Lovebirds are a species of parrots and these lovebirds are mostly found in Africa. The Lovebirds are 16 - 17 cm in sizes and they weigh about 40 - 60 grams. They are characterized by their stout body, large beak and a short as well as blunt tail. Scientifically the lovebirds are known as Agapornis. They come in different colors. Activity - The lovebirds are very active as they climb around, keep, flying and are always moving from one place to another. Training - It is easy to train the young lovebirds but the training of the adult lovebirds requires much effort. In order to train the lovebirds properly, one has to spent quality time with the lovebirds. At first start to develop a relation with your lovebirds by conversing verbally with your lovebirds. Then start to train your lovebirds and you have to keep patience while giving training to your lovebirds. You can also train your birds to talk and mimic.

Breeding - There are several factors that is associated with the breeding of lovebirds, which are:
  • Give your lovebirds a balance diet
  • Fresh water should be provided to the lovebirds.
  • Place the lovebirds in an area where they can inhale fresh air.
  • The level of humidity should be about 65 percent.
  • The diameter of the hole of the box where the eggs are going to be hatched should be 2 to 3 inches.
  • Place nesting materials such as grass, leaves at the breeding place.
  • A cutllebone should be place at the breeding place

    Lovebird Eggs - The lovebirds lay about 5 eggs. The first egg starts to hatch after twenty-four days. The incubation period is 22-25 days. The male lovebird joins the female lovebird in the nest only after the second egg is hatched. One important aspect regarding the lovebirds is that the smallest cheek, most of the times do not survive.

    Problems - The signs of sickness of lovebirds are, ruffled feathers, watery eyes, runny nose, an increase in the sleeping hours, curtailment in activities, a color change in the droppings, sneezing and excessive scratching.

    Availability - The Peach - faced, the Masked and the Fischer's Lovebird are the most commonly found species.

    Prices - The prices of the lovebirds vary depending on the species of lovebirds. The prices of the lovebirds on an average range from $60 - $ 200.
