Breeding Love Bird

The lovebirds are generally very affectionate in nature. The lovebirds form very strong bonds with their mates, usually lasting for a lifetime. The lovebirds measure about 15 to 17 cm in size and weigh about 40 - 60 grams. The lovebirds come in different colors. One interesting fact about lovebirds is that they are the smallest species of parrots in the world. While breeding love birds, one has to keep the following things in mind:

  • Feed the lovebirds on an optimum diet.
  • Provide the birds fresh water.
  • Keep the birds in a place where they can inhale fresh air.
  • Humidity level must be approximately 65 percent.
  • The diameter of the hole of the box where the female lovebird is going to hatch her eggs must be 2 to 3 inches.
  • Place grass, leaves, cage paper and other nesting materials that are essential for proper breeding.
  • Place a cuttle bone at the breeding place.
  • There are a number of books with detailed instructions related to the breeding of lovebirds. If your Valentine has lovebirds as pets, and wants to gain information regarding the proper breeding of lovebirds, then you can gift her/him books dealing with the breeding of lovebirds.
