Love birds are among the commonest pets worldwide. Though peachfaced love birds are the most common avian pets, black masked love birds rank quite high on the popularity charts.

These colorful parrots are committed to their mates, and the whole day is spent preening, cooing and billing. The birds live for at least eighteen to twenty years, if good care is taken of them.

Black masked love birds are natives of Africa. They are extremely pleasing to the eye. The heads of these birds are black and their eyes are ringed with white. Red beaks, yellow chests and green body complete the exotic, out of world look. These birds are friendly and engaging in nature. They are easy to keep and easier to maintain. They are bundles of vigor and vitality, and spend an active day playing with toys or chattering with their mates. Black masked love birds are highly domesticated; they have been bred for being pets for over a century.

Black masked love birds easily speak, if taught from an early age. They have a squeaky voice, which makes their speech difficult-to-understand. Female black masked love birds can become very nippy over a period of time, so the male of the species make better pets for the people who wish to handle them.
