Classic Friendship Poems

Friendship and love are but the two sides of the same coin. Some of the greatest poets in the literary world have shown that love can become a classic friendship poem. After all a beloved is the warmest, dearest friend we can ever hope to have in life. Some excerpts from John Milton's "Paradise Lost" conveys such intense love.

Paradise Lost...

With thee conversing I forget all time,
All seasons and their change, all please alike.
Sweet is the breath of morn, her rising sweet,
With charm of earliest birds; pleasant the sun
When first on this delightful land he spreads
His orient beams, on herb, tree, fruit and flower,
Glistring with dew; fragrant the fertile earth
After soft showers; and sweet the coming on
Of grateful evening mild, then silent night
With this her solemn and this fair moon,
And these the gems of heav'n, her starry train:
Nor grateful evening mild, nor silent night
But neither breath of morn when she ascends
With charm of earliest birds, nor rising sun
On this delightful land, nor herb, fruit, flower,
Glistring with dew, nor fragrance after showers,
With this her solemn bird, nor walk by moon,
Or glittering starlight without thee is sweet...

Beautiful classic friendship poems have been penned by some unknown authors too. Like this poem,

There's lots of things
With which I'm blessed,
Tho' my life's been both Sunny and Blue,
But of all my blessings,
This one's the best:
To have a friend like you.

In times of trouble
Friends will say,
"Just ask... I'll help you through it."
But you don't wait for me to ask,
You just get up And you do it!

And I can think
Of nothing in life
That I could more wisely do,
Than know a friend,
And be a friend,
And love a friend...like you.
