In the year 1935, the Congress of US, declared that every first Sunday of the august month would be observed as - the friendship day. This was proclaimed considering the value of those people who have played significant role in your lives. The friendship day became a National celebration day.

Very soon it grew very popular and became International Friendship day. Many other countries also, adopted this festivity and started observing the first Sunday of august as friendship day. In the year 1997, the United Nations named 'Winnie - the Pooh' as the world's brand ambassador of friendship.


Friendship and Bible

Bible is the sacred text of western civilization that practice Christianity as religion. Even, this holy book has reflected on the friendship day importance. It says - 'bond is formed by human faith, trust and companionship.' This is one of the major documents that tell about friendship day history. In the New Testament, the relationship between Jesus and his disciples clearly depicts how human friendship can constantly grow. From being teacher and disciple, to lord and servant their relationship finally grew to an unparalleled friendship. Friendship day history may not have concrete documents but, you can get maximum information from the holy texts.
