The term jewelry is a loan word from the Latin word “Jocale” which means “plaything”. Although jewelry has always been worn by people to adorn themselves since the long gone days of the ancient rimes yet it is only after the fashion revolution, in the early 14th century, in Britain, jewelry designing slowly became quite an undeniable part of the fashion world. Jewelry which was earlier used as an item for prettifying the aesthetic appeal of the wearer, gradually gained the status of being an emblem of class, style, grace and elegance; a logo of fashion and of course became an articulate definition of “fashion statement”. Jewelry designers with their skill, talent, toil, imagination and creativity became those experts to offer that beautiful shape to the mass of gold and silver whilst making it one of the must item of every women’s fashion wardrobe.
As time changed the jewelry designers did change the design, pattern and style of jewelries to befit the modish requirement of the era. Gone were the styles of those heavy Egyptian jewelries and the jewelry designers came up with those graceful Georgian jewelries,
which were not only symmetrical and elegant but at the same time were regal and balanced. Be it in those designing of tiaras or in the fashioning of the brooch or those necklaces and hairpins elegance hallmarked the dreams of the jewelry designers. The wheel of fashion moved further and the jewelry designers evolved a new style in designing to suit the grandness of the Victorian style and fashion-- personalized jewelries came into fashion in that era.
Although jewelry designers altered and experimented with the designing pattern of jewelries yet it is till the time of the “art deco movement” jewelry designing was somewhat canonical. It is just right after the “art deco movement” Jewelry designing gained a contemporary diction where the jewelry designers concentrated on making the patterns fashionable and neat.
Geometrical and symmetrical look came into fashion. Bold designs became quite a choice of the jewelry designers while emphasizing the pattern with color. Black and white created a dramatic fusion in jewelry designing and continued to be in fashion till the advent of the modern era.
