The major fashion event in Paris is the ‘Paris Fashion Week’ held twice a year as the Paris Fashion Week Spring and the Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter collections. These semiannual events of the ‘Fall’ showcases the designers ‘fall collections’ and are held January through March and the ‘Spring’ fashion weeks displays the spring collections held September through November.
To enable the press and buyers a chance to preview fashion designs for the following season, the Fashion week must be held several months in advance of the season. The fashion weeks are then classified under the Prêt-a-Porter (ready-to-wear) Fashion Week, Couture (one-of-a-kind designer original) Fashion Week, Bridal Fashion Week etc. Runway shows are typically the highlight of Paris Fashion Week.
In the Paris Haute Couture Collection, all the famous fashion designers of Paris display their latest creations on the runways of the event venue. It’s the only event organized by the ‘Federation Francaise de la Couture’ and it’s held early to the mid-July every year. There are some permanent members of Haute Couture who all exhibit their latest ‘cuts and curves’ to the worlds besides some Correspondents members and Guests members.
The permanent members at present are Adeline Andre, Chanel, Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix, Dominique Sirop, Emanuel Ungaro, Franck Sorbier, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier and Jean-Louis Scherrer. Another popular fashion event of the Fashion Week is the Paris Menswear Fashion Week showcasing the ‘in’ menswear of the season. All these fashion events help us get a preview of the current trends, styles, flairs and modes of the fashion world and also help fashion tracers be up-to-date.
