Fashion events are primarily organized to showcase the collections of the leading designers around the world. MG Fashion, which is a division of international media giant IMG, is global leader in the management and production of fashion events and fashion weeks. The major fashion events around the world involve big business and leading brands like Mercedes Benz, Olympus and others sponsor these events.
Fashion events or the fashion weeks held in the major fashion capitals like Paris, Milan, New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Miami are generally held for a week. These are basically promotional events for new and veteran designers to display their latest creations. Runway shows are the highlight of a fashion week where models walk the ramp wearing the various designer clothes.
Designs at fashion events usually deviate from the norm and are sometimes highly outrageous and extremely whacky. Designers are at their creative best as the competition is pretty tough with so many talents out to prove their mettle and creativity.
Besides the major fashion weeks, some of the other fashion events are Strut and Elite Model Look. Strut is an annual Leeds fashion show, held in the Leeds corn exchange, where the top collections of independent designers from Leeds are displayed. Elite Model Look is a fashion event held annually by Elite Models Management, which is an international model management group.
By the year 2000, Fashion weeks became popular all around the globe to attract international business. The major fashion weeks are attended by celebrities, socialites, media and the members of the entertainment business. These days to fashion design schools also participate in several fashion events.
Many fashion weeks are genre-specific, like the Miami Fashion Week featuring Swimwear, Palm Springs Fashion Week for resort collections, Pręt-a-Porter Fashion Week for ready-to-wear, and the Bridal Fashion Week among others. Such fashion events have become an integral part of the fashion industry worldwide and through these events many fresh young talents are recognized.
