Fashion events are primarily organized to showcase the collections of the leading designers around the world. Fashion events or the fashion weeks held in the major fashion capitals like Paris, Milan, New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Miami are generally held for a week. By the year 2000, Fashion weeks became popular all around the globe to attract international business. The major fashion weeks are attended by celebrities, socialites, media and the members of the entertainment business. These days to fashion design schools also participate in several fashion events.
Many fashion weeks are genre-specific, like the Miami Fashion Week featuring Swimwear, Palm Springs Fashion Week for resort collections, Prêt-a-Porter Fashion Week for ready-to-wear, and the Bridal Fashion Week among others. Such fashion events have become an integral part of the fashion industry worldwide and through these events many fresh young talents are recognized.
