Vintage 80’s clothes

The vintage 80’s clothes reflect the fashion of that decade which believed in excess. Everything was in excess and big was the buzzword where fashion was concerned. The awesome 80’s was the decade of the punks. The vintage 80’s clothes had a wild and whacky element marked by outfits that seemed to overcrowd the appearance. Acid washed jeans were the rage in the 80’s while the Hawaiian shirt was took off in a big way. End of the 80s saw the plain brown aviator jackets made a comeback. Shoulder pads in shirts and jackets popularized by Linda Evans remained in style all through the 1980s.

Like the fashion of all modern decades vintage 80’s clothes in popular culture integrated distinct trends from other eras. Loose shirts and tight fitting pants were the popular look of the young girls and boys. Brand names like Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein gained importance in this decade. It was the decade of Madonna and Michael Jackson who were the leading trendsetters of the 80s. They inspired many teenagers who looked to them for fashion statements.

The ripped sweat shirts from the popular movie Flashdance (1983) became a popular fashion trend. Leg warmers and mini skirts were also a characteristic feature of the vintage 80’s clothes. While many trends discontinued after a while the mini skirt of the 80’s remained a part of the fashion statement for most women.

Loose pullover and cardigans were the common favorite among the men and women of the 80’s. Vintage 80’s clothes had the distinct mark of a free spirit. It was the age of experimentation with fashion and style. Big was considered beautiful unlike today’s style statement where less is more. Leather jackets, mini skirts, loose shirts, puffy dresses, tight pants and ripped jeans were the preferred vintage 80’s clothes. The 80’s also witnessed the return of pinstripes in men’s business suits for the first time in decades. The new pinstripes were more narrow and subtle as compared to the 1930s and 1940s business suits. The 1980s also witnessed the huge popularity of colorful styles in men's attire.
