80’s style clothing

The 80’s style clothing was of wide variety, trend and cuts. Both men and women wore trendy and stylish outfits that were quite loud and excess of everything. The 80’s style clothing brought out the individuality among both men and women and it showed their search for identity. The clothes were made from body-clinging fabrics like Lycra or spandex, which were super-popular in the 80’s fashion. Multi-colored fabrics were the rage for both sexes and were considered ‘HOT’!

Neon clothing, leg warmers, and Guess jeans were famous among the women besides polka dots, Preppie clothes and wedgies. Oversized sweatshirts over tight leggings were the norm of the day. Black and white stripes were also the fashion fever at that time. Thin stripes, fat stripes, vertical and horizontal striped T-shirts and skirts and also the multi-colored stripes too were a must have for one’s wardrobe. Even the men wore different types of striped shirts.

Floral Prints, another popular fashion trend of the 80’s, emerged along with button-down shirts and skirts and dresses in floral patterns. People used to be decked out in floral from head to toe! The women paired up the floral skirt with a solid color top looking trendy and smart. The men were more of the denim kinds with the acid-washed jeans and denim jackets becoming quite popular. The women also wore denim jackets with skirts and jeans. The leather jackets were also becoming quite fashionable, more so after it was popularized by Michael Jackson and films like The Lost Boys. The oversized, droop shouldered faded leather jackets with puffy sleeves from Europe caught onto the rest of the world. Another very ‘in’ look for the men in the 80’s was the Hawaiian shirts. Complemented with sport coats with stitched looks they were worn for both casual and business settings. In business they were worn minus the tie. The jeans worn by men and also women were severely bleached and ripped especially at the knees and also at the ankles. Some of the famous brands used in the 80’s are Ocean Pacific, Banana Republic, Banana Republic, Reebok, LA Gear, Liz Claiborn, Keds, Esprit, and Gap for the women and Jordache, Guess, Kaepa, Izod, Ralph Loren, Vans, and Adidas for men.
