Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have just married and My Dear Valentine is conveying its best wishes for their future to the couple. One of the most successful of Hollywood film stars, Tom Cruise has given at least six consecutive block buster hits. Cruise had an unsettled childhood as his parents were not on very good terms with each other. The family moved from one place to another and young Cruise lived in various places including Ottawa and Ontario.
Schooling was disturbed as he had to attend different schools in different places, but ultimately graduated from Glen Ridge High School, New Jersey. His father was not entirely straight forward, and very recently it has been revealed that Tom Cruise suffered from child abuse when he was a kid.
His desire to be actor can be attributed in some way to his success of bagging the lead role in his high school’s production, Guys and Dolls.
But school productions and Hollywood cannot be possibly compared, he first got an insignificant role in Endless Love. It had Brooke Shields as the lead heroine. But in 1983, Cruise was on his way to stardom with the release of his film Risky Business. The same year saw another of his release, All the Right Moves. Legend by Ridley Scott was another film that made Tom Cruise consolidate his position.
Top Gun was released in May 1986 and became a blockbuster overnight. Another legend Paul Newman, and Cruise came together to portray characters in The Color of Money. Cocktail and Rainman with Dustin Hoffman were milestones in Cruise’s career. Cruise got a nomination for Oscar for Born on the Fourth of July. This was based on the autobiography of Ron Kovic, a Vietnam War veteran. When chronicling, Cruise’s career, who can but not mention The Firm. Mission Impossible and Jerry McGuire are signature Cruise films. The last mentioned film earned him an Academy Award Best Actor nomination. But accolades and brickbats came with Stanley Kubrick’s film Eyes Wide Shut. He worked with a director of Steven Spielberg’s stature in Minority Report. Tom Cruise till now has portrayed characters with various shades of black, white and gray. Typical chocolate goody-goody hero days are over for this talented actor. He has the strength and capability to play far more complicated characters.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes started dating in early 2005 after she ended her engagement to Chris Klein. Cruise on the other hand, has had many affairs and marriages. Holmes had acted in movies like Abandon and Batman Begins, but television has given her better fame, many of her films were box office duds. The couple has one daughter Suri. It is hoped that they will have a satisfying future together.
