The Hollywood world is now abuzz with the recently announced split between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver.
On 10th of May, 2011, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have jointly announced that they have been ending their relationship and splitting up. They have said that they are ‘splitting amicably’. However, both of them remained silent when they were asked if a divorce will follow the course. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver were married for a long 25 years and it is quite unfortunate since their declaration of ending the relation came two week after the couple had celebrated 25 years of togetherness.
In their joint statement they have mentioned that their decision has been a joint decision and there have been no hard feelings about it. "This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us".
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver Marriage
Arnold Schwarzenegger married Maria Shriver in 1986 when she was a television journalist. Maria is the niece of President John F. Kennedy. Arnold and Maria became one of the most famous celebrity couple since Schwarzenegger has been the highest paid actor of Hollywood of that time and Maria was a news anchor. The couple has four children by the name of Katherine Eunice Shriver Schwarzenegger, Christina Maria Aurelia Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Christopher Sargent Shriver Schwarzenegger.
Their marriage was apparently a happy and successful marriage and they remained the favorite of the media for their celebrity pedigree. During this time Schwarzenegger’s career flourished in Hollywood and he also made a successful transition to politics eventually when he became the Governor of California in 2003. It is an unfortunate ending to a very successful relation.
Apparent reasons behind the split
The reason behind the split hasn’t been declared by the couple. But there have been many speculations about the probable causes. Apparently Maria has said that she has been miserable in her marriage with Schwarzenegger and that she finally has to take the call after enduring it for so long. It seemed that Maria has been reflecting over the idea of splitting since 2009. She was tired of Schwarzenegger’s multiple identity of a Hollywood actor, active humanitarian and the Governor of California. The situation was further complicated by Schwarzenegger’s time to time escapades with women outside his marriage with Maria. Then there has also been the seven year affair with former actress Gigi Goyette to further aggravate the situation. It is suspected that all these factors might have contributed to Maria’s decision to end the relationship.
Maria was decided to end their relation in 2009 when her mother died and she had to fall back on Schwarzenegger for support. Then again the decision was postpone after the death of her father in 2010. So, we can’t say that this decision has been taken in haste. Although the couple looked happy and together in their public appearances the tension might have been flowing underneath. Nevertheless, the decision came as a shock to the entire Hollywood fraternity since the couple had only celebrated their 25th years of union with their children just two weeks before the announcement.
Hope for reconciliation
However, although the situation is looking grave for the couple at this moment there are also rumors for chances of reconciliation. Since the time Schwarzenegger has learned about his wife’s decision he has been said to working on clearing up the matters. It seems that the couple still has tender feelings for each other and Schwarzenegger seems interested in reuniting with his wife and keeping the family intact.
