She went on to become one of America's leading sharpshooter and exhibition shooter. In 1881 the famous Baughman and butler shooting act was going on in Cincinnati. Frank E Butler, the star of the show boasted that he could beat any local fancy shooter. He bet a hotel owner $100 who arranged a shooting match and Butler was quite surprised on knowing that a young girl had accepted his challenge. In a short while Butler was face to face with Oakley in the shooting competition which he lost and Annie won and simultaneously they lost their hearts to each other. After this Frank began dating Annie which eventually led to a happy marriage and partnership of 44 years.
Frank gave up his career to manage hers as her talent and luck landed her a starring role in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show where she performed with the nick name "Watanya Cicilla" and this eventually shot her to fame as she went on to become the first American female superstar. After their marriage they lived in Cincinnati and initially Oakley worked as Butler's assistant in his show, but later Butler realized that Oakley was more talented than just being his assistant so finally he became her business manager. They had a happy married partnership for 44 years until Annie died in 1962 and a heart broken Frank followed her to the grave after 18 days of her death.
