All of us dream of a perfect life, a perfect life partner but life is not always a smooth sail. We do not have a choice as to which family, siblings, relatives we want to belong to but we have one in selecting our life partner, a beautiful and most precious relationship that we always wish for, a ‘till death do us part’ one.
But not all are lucky enough to experience such a life. Many take the path of divorce as the ultimate option. Question is why? Why does a beautiful relationship face such a fate? Divorce is an age old step that many have been compelled to take, but it has become like a virus and is spreading like never before.
Let us see what can be the top 10 reasons that people go through to take such a drastic step.
Selfishness –‘I’, ‘me’ and ‘myself’ is the call of the day in modern times. It is my priorities, my thinking, my expectations, interest, likings and disliking that takes prominence and we forget that we are in a relationship where another person is involved with me and it is ‘our life’ not ‘my life’. Little bit of sharing and caring can bind us together and help us to lead a healthy and happy life.
Incompatibility – While in courtship or in case of arranged marriage it is not always possible to know each other completely. It may be true that both partners are perfect in their own way but may still be incompatible with each other after all they are two different individuals with separate thought process.
Communication gap – Miscommunication or lack of communication is one of the major reasons for divorce. Nowadays life has become so busy that couples hardly find time for each other. The more a couple spends time and communicate with each other, the more they know each other. This helps to strengthen their bond.
Expectation – Expectation leading to continuous expectation and finally over expectation. There is no end to it. While in a relationship one has to understand that the partner is also a human being who has some limits. Continuous nagging and irritation can be a constant source of discomfort for the partner and at times it can slowly lead to differences in relationship.
Different culture and upbringing – Two people coming from two different cultures, upbringing and societal strata may find it difficult to adjust with each other.
Love lost/New relationship – This can happen when partners find that there is no passion or excitement left between each other. They might stay together but have lost interest for each other. Even sex life has become boring. One partner may find interest in another person and slowly gets drawn towards him/her. Sometimes priorities between partners change which creates mental difference which may ultimately lead to divorce.
Dominating – One of the partners may be very dominating and aggressive and hardly pays heed to what the other has to say. While a timid partner may compromise domination, but a partner equally strong headed refuses to bow down which creates bitterness. Although in both the cases the couple knowingly or unknowingly drifts apart that may culminate in divorce at a later stage.
Physical and mental torture – One of the main and worst reasons cited in many divorce cases is physical and mental torture. While physical torture can be seen, mental torture leaves a mark in the mind of the victim, sometimes forever.
Jealousy and insecurity – Healthy competition is good in all spheres but that should not take such a toll that insecurity and jealousy comes between and hampers relationship.
Infidelity – Any relationship is based on the foundation of trust and faithfulness which includes sexual faithfulness and loyalty. Cheating on a partner is one such crime that can never be excused and reasons for one of the prime cause for divorce.
