How to Lighten Up Your Relationship...

Posted on :2012-06-10 in

Let’s be honest, no matter how hard you work to keep things fresh, sometimes a couple will get into a rut.  The good thing, though, is that you can figure out how to lighten up your relationship with simple fixes to inject some life into that old routine.

The longer you two are together, the more likely you are to get trapped doing the same thing over and over again.  Take solace in the fact these seven ideas can help you fan that old flame!

Play Kid’s Games

One of the toughest parts of being an adult is the loss of carefree time to be, well, childish.  If you are like most couples, then you need a shock to the system in order to regain that youthful quality – and a game of Hide-and-Go-Seek (or something similar) is a perfect for that.

How to Lighten Up Your Relationship

Get in the Car and Drive

As you gain responsibilities with age, chances are you are unable to be as spontaneous as you were in those heady early days of your relationship.  Want to regain some of that?  Pack a bag and to a hotel a couple hours away from home.  Disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other.

Find Ways to Inject Inside Jokes into Conversation

There is something about sharing laughter that always helps keep your love life vibrant.  If you want to take it to another level, attempt to toss a joke the two of you share – even if it’s just a funny word – into a conversation amongst friends and see which of you loses it first.

Tickle Fights

When was the last time the two of you tried to engage in the classic tickle fight?  Yes, it seems a bit odd to propose one – it shouldn’t be a ten-paces-and-turn duel – but an effort to surprise your sweetie with a playful squeeze in the right place could have both of you smiling so much your faces hurt in no time.

Sneak Up On Each Other

Studies have shown there is a fine line between the arousal generated by horror movies and intimate encounters (which is why most guys suggest a scary flick on dates).  Try to replicate that “fun fright” by sneaking up on each other around the house.  Just be careful not to go too far – those self-defense classes might come in a little too handy.

Make Silliness Mandatory

Few couples, for all the efforts they make to lighten things up, really step out into the ridiculous.  Sometimes it just helps to be completely off-the-wall for a day – or even just an afternoon.  If you are accustomed to being clothed in the latest designer gear, why not stroll around your local mall acting like a cowboy?  Sure, you’ll probably look like a fool, but that’s the point!

Just Smile

Ultimately, the simplest way to get eliminate the heaviness in our relationship is to smile.  Regardless of how down you feel, baring your teeth with a wide grin helps both of you relax.  Even just several seconds looking deep into each other’s eyes can get you back on the right track for happily ever after.
