Look Great on Valentine’s Day
Of all the days on the calendar, February 14th is one that seems to bring with it an extra desire to dress well for a loved one.
Apart from your anniversary or a birthday, being able to look great on Valentine’s Day is among the bigger challenges we face while dating and after marriage. We all know it’s a big night for romance in a variety of ways, so playing along the whole spectrum of what it means is key.
If you are putting a bunch of energy toward figuring out what you’ll put on for the occasion, here are some hints that might help you decide:
Pick Something Your Partner Loves
It seems like such a simple tip, but wearing clothes your significant other loves seeing on you is a great way to show you are thinking of them. It might be a certain shirt or a particular tie you received as a gift from him or her, even an old item from when you first got together (if you can fit into it!). If all else fails, think back to the last time you heard “That really looks good on you” before you guys went out for a date. Start there, then begin combing through your closet for alternatives. Before you know it, you’ll have the right one.
You Should Feel Confident with It On
That said, feel free to substitute something that makes you self-assured. If your lover’s favorite article of clothing you wear will make you feel awkward or out of place for the evening you have planned, then it’s best to avoid that particular option. You want to feel like you are at your best when you pull on your outfit of choice. If you select something that makes it seem like you have it on out of obligation – or worse, if it’s uncomfortable – then you will have completely defeated the purpose. Being on top of your game for the most romantic night of the year is crucial to your ability to enjoy yourself and, by extension, for your partner to have fun with you. With that in mind, putting on an ill-fitting shirt just because you received it two Christmases ago from your sweetheart is not the way to go.
Don’t Be Afraid to Wear Something Frisky
Let’s face it, there are certain “amorous activities” adults can expect to engage in at some point on love’s own holiday. Why not get the fires of passion burning a little bit by picking an ensemble that accentuates your best features and activates the imagination? For women, this often means a dress that hugs tight in all the right places or shows an appropriate amount of skin, while a man might choose to put on a suit and tie to create the archetypal “Sharped-Dressed Man” that drives every girl crazy. Whichever route you go, even if it’s outside the range of what most would consider “sexy,” make sure your partner knows what you have in store. It’s a fact of human nature: give people something to feast their eyes on and their imagination will do the rest. Make a powerful suggestion, then let the sparks fly.
