How to Let Go of Someone you Love
Life is too short to waste on unhappy days. Love yourself first. Being trapped in the past only adds to your pain.
Learn to move on keeping heartaches and shattered dreams far behind.
Accept that you cannot control how others feel: We need to understand we cannot have control over everything in life. You cannot influence how someone else feels about you. If the person ignores you, then she/he is not worthy of your attention as well.
Accept that the feelings of the other person might not change even if you wait for it to happen: Sometimes we feel that things might change with time. Although it may be probable, acknowledge that it is not a certainty.
Accept that one sided feelings cannot make up a long lasting relationship: Sometimes we feel that our wave of love will be strong enough to combat all the oddities of life. But in reality every relationship sees ups and downs; and you need strong mutual feelings of trust and love to take such things to your stride. As such, in case you have hopes pinned on a one-sided affection, it’s better to let go.
Accept that letting go is not an overnight process: Don’t try to erase the person from your heart overnight. Healing is not a quick fix. It takes time.
Accept that you should not stoop down and flex your own standards: Remind yourself of your standards and dignity. If a person is not reciprocating your affection, it might not be the best idea to adjust for him. Realize you are settling on negotiations. Perhaps life has better in store for you. Set higher standards.
Accept that not having that person does not bring the world to an end: When we are obsessed with a person or an idea, we feel that not having that will wreck our lives. But it is not so. Your happiness should not be dependent on someone’s mercy. Go out and enjoy some fun activities. Spend time with family and friends. You’d realize that your happiness is important for them. Your unhappiness will cause them to suffer too.
Accept that you cannot put your life on hold for anything or anybody: Life has more nuances than being just restricted to your equation with one person. Explore all the possibilities in life. This might give you a broader perspective to accept the situation in a different perspective.
Accept that you should let your head rule over your heart at times: Love is a matter of heart, I agree. But listening only to your heart may not take you a long way in life. Listen to your head. Reason why you are holding on to someone who has moved on. Holding on brings about stagnancy to your life and limits its scope.
Some things are difficult to let go. Give it time. You don’t have to depend on anything or anyone at all to live a fulfilling and rewarding life.
