How to Get Over A Crush

Posted on :2013-04-01 in

Having a crush on someone is a natural emotional behavior that anyone and everyone can experience. In fact we all experience it at some point or the other. Sometimes we get drawn towards people we consider perfect or right and idolize him/her and get attracted.

It’s commonly associated with teenagers while in reality there is no age bound for it. A married person or someone we consider as a matured person may also have a crush. But at times it becomes heartbreaking when you find there is no future in the relationship that you wish so happens.

That is when you have to realize that you will have to get over it and move on. It is difficult but not impossible as life has many shades left for you to be explored and doesn’t confine at one point. These tips help you to handle such a situation with ease.

Admission and acceptance - Do not shy away with the fact that you have a crush on someone. Everything does not fall the way we wish to, admit it to yourself that you have a crush and accept the fact that it has no future. It is possible that the person with whom you have crush is already in a relationship or has a different feeling for you or some other reason. This is not something that has happened to you only. You will find many others around who probably have been through this emotional setback. If possible share it with your buddy or someone who you think can understand and relate with your feelings.

How to Get Over A Crush

Do not blame yourself – It is in no way your fault that the relationship that you so wished to happen does not have any future. So do not mix it with personal failure or self worthiness. It is just that he/she is not meant for you. Cry out loud or voice out your expression, write your feelings in a piece of paper and tear it off, do whatever you feel like to brush out the agony, pain and emotion from your system.

Distance yourself from your crush – ‘Out of sight, out of mind’ is an age old proverb but so true to its words.  Maintain distance from your crush if possible. Sometimes it becomes difficult when it is unavoidable. May be you are in the same class, same office, belong to the same community, share common friends and network. In such circumstances stick to your studies or office work, try to avoid friends meet where your crush might be present.

Engross yourself into something else – You may start a new hobby, meet new people, go on a vacation, spend more time with family and friends, change your daily routine, learn something new. This will help you to keep yourself busy and at the same time make you feel happy.

Spend more time for yourself – May be it’s been long that you have not taken care of yourself. Pamper yourself with may be a make-over or a beauty regimen or a new wardrobe. Analyze your life and channelize your energy in self development. Plan the way you would like to see yourself in the next ten years and how you can achieve it. Think positive and do things that make you feel happy and content.
