How to Deal With a Friend Who Copies You
Going by a famous saying, “Imitation is the best form of flattery”, you should not mind if someone imitates your every move. You should take it in a lighthearted manner at first if someone wants to be like you at every step and loves to do all the things that you do.
There is some pleasure involved in knowing that there is someone out there who likes to copy all the things you do or the way you act. It goes to show that you are being looked upon as someone significant. You may be a source of inspiration or someone worth imitation that is why people are copying you.
However, it may become a little annoying at some point of time when you have to constantly deal with a buddy who mimics everything you do. Find some tips here to learn how to deal with a friend who copies your mannerisms.
Confront them about it
When you are sure that a friend tries to imitate everything you do and you are displeased with this fact then try confronting your friend about it. Tell him/her about your views on being copied. You should not be afraid to voice out your unpleasantness on being imitated if you feel irritated. However, use a voice tone that does not sound too harsh when confronting the person about this matter. A rude or loud voice can hurt your friend and may prompt him/her to limit his bond or severe ties with you in the future.
No matter how much annoyed you may be on the fact of being imitated by your buddy but it is best to maintain your cool when you approach him about this issue. You can ask him/her about it politely without getting into any unnecessary discussion. Entering into arguments may spoil your relationship with your good friend. You can confront him without being discourteous. It is important to maintain a composed outlook even if you find that your every move is being watched very carefully and then imitated.
Convince your friend to be original
If it is your friend who annoys you with his habit of imitating everything you do then it is best to tell him that copying you will not help him/her develop his own personality. Show him how being original can be more appealing than being a copycat. May be your friend is not aware of the benefits of having an original personality. So it would be nice of you if you can convince to create a style, which defines him best rather than copying everything you do.
Help Develop A New Personality
Just getting your displeasure across for being copied is not enough when the person who is doing it is your friend. You can take the initiative of helping him/her to develop a unique style and a personality that is different from yours. Figure out the ways in which she could get a new look which is different and unique from the rest of the herd.
