How to cook Valentine’s Day Dinner
They say that an easy way to a person’s heart is through the stomach! The belly rules the mind, the Spanish proverb confirms. In fact science also reinstates the fact that food can be an effective aphrodisiac. No celebration is complete without feasting. And Valentine’s Day should be no exception.
Before we get you all excited with our full course menu plan complete with recipes, there are a few things we’d want you to keep in mind. First and foremost, your Valentine loves you – and would love you more for your efforts to please – you do not need to go overboard for that. If you are not comfortable around the kitchen, stick to simple fare. Celebrations do not necessarily mean gourmet -- especially on Valentine’s Day, where the key is intimacy and coziness.
Another important thing to consider is not to stuff yourselves if you are planning for after meal sensuous mischief. Finally, it is the one night of the year when you can forget about the dishes, no matter how grimy, they can wait – romance cannot! So pick up your apron and chef’s cap and get experimental in the kitchen – remember, it’s the thought that counts the most!
Start off with aromatic Chicken Coriander Soup served with store-bought garlic bread on the side:
This soup will soothe your senses with its aroma and hit the right note on the palate. The best part is the preparation and the cooking time put together is less than 30 minutes. In a heavy bottom pan, toss in ground chicken, finely chopped garlic and salt with about 4 cups of water. Let it heat till the water is reduced and the chicken stock is made. Now strain the chicken and keep the stock aside. In another similar pan, heat butter, add the chicken and brown well by stirring. When done, add the stock. Throw in some chopped coriander leaves and let the whole thing boil. Remove from heat, check for seasoning, and add lime juice as per your taste. For serving, slice out store bought garlic bread, butter them, and toss them in the oven to add a slight crunch. Garnish them with coriander leaves as you take them out of the oven.
For the main course, Flavorful & Creamy Prawn Fettuccine:
In a pan, simmer prawns in salt, pepper and water till they are cooked. Cook the fettuccine according to directions in the package. In another pan, melt butter and add garlic to it and cook a little. Do not brown though. Add finely chopped vegetables and mushroom of your choice, and stir fry till they are cooked. Add about a cup of heavy cream and a teaspoon of store bought herb-mix spice. Adjust the heat to medium and let it boil. Add the prawns. Now turn the heat to low and set to simmer as long as the sauce does not reach your desired consistency. Fold in the fettuccine and serve hot!
Sweeten up with sinful Chocolate Covered Strawberries as dessert:
Luscious pink strawberries are so suggestive of a sweet kiss. Sweeten them further by adding chocolates. Buy strawberries with the top on. Wash them and pat dry properly with kitchen towel. Handle them gently. Now in a pan melt about 4 tablespoons of heavy cream with 2 cups of chocolate chips by stirring continuously. When they melt into a smooth paste, coat the strawberries with it. Set to cool and serve with ice-cream.
